“It’s my salute and thanks giving to them”: Gokulam Kerala CEO Praveen On Felicitating Indian Football Legends
Kerala Blasters has been subject of criticism off late both for their on-the-field performance and off-the-field issues. The franchise accommodating VIP tickets for amateur Cine-artists to allow them to promote their film while giving a normal ticket to Indian football legend I.M. Vijayan was one of the valid points of being in the receiving end. But another club from Kerala is silently doing their work within their limitations and are showing signs of steadiness and promise. We are talking about I-League side Gokulam Kerala FC.
The I-League is on the verge of a photo-finish this season, both at the top and the bottom, and also in the middle! While almost all eyes will be on who will be lifting the league, Gokulam under Bino George would be fighting for securing their top 6 finish and thus cementing the entry to the final round of Super Cup. On 8th March on the occasion of the match against Kolkata giants Mohun Bagan, the Gokulam Kerala FC management has decided to felicitate eighteen Kerala and Indian football legends, a step much contrary to the recently reflected values of their ISL counterparts from the state.
The eighteen former players who will be felicitatedat EMS Stadium are: I.M. Vijayan, K.T. Chako, Papachan, Xavier Paes, Sharafli, Kurikesh Mathew, Anson, NP Pradeep, M Suresh, Premnath Philip, KF Benny, Jo Paul Ancheri, Sethumadhavan, KV Danesh, Balachandran, MP Ashoken, Abdul Hakkim, MM Poulouse.
While being asked about this gesture, Gokulam Kerala FC CEO Mr. Praveen said,”They were legends before already but always felt sports men and army men are never given due importance after their prime. And recognition also gives the present players to know them and be motivated”.
“I grew up seeing these heroes and they ignited the passion of football in me. It is my salute and Thanks giving to them. To have made Kerala proud by their contribution to Indian football.”, he went onto add.
Gokulam Kerala FC has had a rejuvenated second half of the league beating prominent names of Indian football one after another. They are also the only top flight team(I-League or ISL) to send a team for Indian Women’s League. Amidst these positivities, this is another gesture which will add to the list of goods of the I-League newbies.
