The Indian Women’s Cricket Team has been deservedly rewarded for their splendid show last year with a huge salary hike. Though the salary is still a fraction of what their male counterparts will earn, however, things have started looking better with more people taking an interest in women’s cricket.
Grade A players comprising of Mithali Raj, Jhulan Goswami, Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana will be getting INR 50 lakh whereas their teammates in Grade B and C will be paid Rs 30 lakhs and 10 lakhs annually as their retainer fees. Grade B comprises of Poonam Yadav, Veda Krishnamurthy, Rajeshwari Gayakwad, Ekta Bisht, Shikha Pandey and Deepti Sharma whereas Group C has Mansi Joshi, Anuja Patil, Mona Meshram, Nuzhat Parveen, Sushma Verma, Punam Raut, Jemimah Rodrigues, Pooja Vastrakar and Taniya Bhatia.
The men’s team is all set for a huge hike as well with the introduction of a new category ‘A+’ comprising of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah who will earn an annual retainership fee of 7 crores. Salaries in Grade A , B and C have been revised to 5 crore , 3 crore and 1 crore respectively. However, surprisingly key bowler Shami Ahmed has been left out from the annual contract. Though no official statement has been announced, however it is speculated that the reason behind this might be the recent allegations of domestic violence and adultery against him.
