Leo Messi wants Barcelona to sign Saul Niguez from Atletico Madrid and not French Striker Griezmann according to sources in Spain.
Leo wants Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez in this summer transfer window and wants to invest €100m by the Catalan club according to Don Balon. The Spainard has been vital for Diego Simeone’s side with his midfield abilities and has also made 7 senior side appearances for Spain.
Saul was part of Diego Simeone’s side which faced FC Barcelona and saw a defeat during the Sunday’s clash. Saul has been integral for Atletico Madrid’s midfield in the past and current season. Griezmann failed to impress Camp Nou and never scored a goal in Camp Nou.
The Argentine wants Barcelona to sign the midfielder ahead of Griezmann, who is rumoured to wear Barcelona jersey and some sources claimed that paper works have been completed. However, Barcelona was eager to sign Saul last season but backed off after learning of an updated release clause.
Barca’s midfield has deteriorated in the recent seasons, with the exit of club legend Xavi and Andres Iniesta’s advanced age causing the Catalan club to bring in reinforcements, few of which have lived up to expectations. Andre Gomes in particular has come in for serious criticism since his move from Valencia in 2016, prompting the Blaugrana to continue their search for improvements in the middle of the pitch.
