ISL 2017/18 Semi Finals: Goa vs Chennaiyin
he 4th edition of ISL is coming to an end by next week, this week is packed with semi-finals. The semi-final will be conducted leg wise. In the Leg-1 of Semi-Final-2, FC Goa takes on Chennaiyin FC in Fatorda in Goa.
FC Goa: After a poor performance in season 3, an almost revamped side was formed under Sergio Lobera and the Gaurs started the season with a brilliant win in their league opener against their opponents in semis inn away game by 2-3.
The start was brilliant but their performance was inconsistent in the middle of the season, this had made the team get below in the table and this was the only reason for FCG to qualify as the 4th team into the playoffs. This is because the miscommunication between the midfield and the defence and also Kattimani was not up to the mark. So Lobera made several changes, it is being expected that for this match too Naveen Kumar will be the GK. In the defence area the striker Juste had to take charge it is because any kind of mistake in the knockout phase will cause severe damage, along with Juste, C singh, N das and S Fernandes have to take the responsibility.
In midfield Mandar Rao Desai is looking promising and along with him Lanzarote, the 2nd top scorer for FC Goa with 12 goals. Coro the top scorer of the season with 18 goals(this was the overall most goals scored by a single player in a season) will be the star player looked by all the fans of Goa and the Gaurs were expecting him to score the goal and take the lead in the 1st leg.
Chennaiyin FC: After finishing last season in the 7th position, the team was formed under the new gaffer John Gregory, the performance of Chennaiyin has been good and constant throughout the season and this made the team to stay in the top four till the end of the league round.
The shot stopper of the side Karanjit Singh is havingg six clean sheets in this season in the league stage. Against FC Goa, Karanjit has saved more than 5 shots and he also saved 2 penalties in this season. The strongest part of CFC is their defence, this season they were holding a record of successful 450+ tackles. The skipper Sereno and Mailson were the wall in the CFC’s Defence and also we should not forget about Jerry and Calderon.
It is tough for the FCG to move the ball ahead of them. In midfield Augusto, Nelson, Ganesh, Bikramjit were promising their interception and passing were good also. The substitutes Thapa, Mihelic were also utilizing their chances correctly. In the attacking side Jeje looking somewhat weak but he is also trying to give that all that he could, even if Rafi gets the chance as an alternate he would like to score a goal and turn himself as a super sub. Overall the unity is good in the Chennai outfit.
FC Goa(4-5-1): N Kumar(GK), Juste(C), N Das, M Ali, S Fernandes, Edu Bedia, A Jahouh, Brandon Fernandes, M Desai Rao, Lanzarote, Coro.
CFC(4-5-1): K Singh(GK), Sereno(C), Mailson, I Calderon, J Lalrinzuala, R Augusto, D Ganesh, G Nelson, B Singh, F Fernandes, J Lalpekhula.

Head to Head
- Matches: 9
- FCG Win: 4
- CFC Win: 5
- Draw: 0
The ISL Committee announced that the ‘Away Goal’ would be taken into account so CFC will give a tough challenge to the hosts. Because If they took the lead here it will be so easy for them to play their 2nd leg in their home, So FC Goa has to take care of it. Though Goa has won their 1st game easily against Gregory’s men but after that, the Defence of CFC has become much stronger and we’ll organised. It is tough for Coro and Lanzarote to score at the same time. Both the teams need to be cautious so that they do not get unnecessarily booked and miss the potentially crucial next leg.
The game will either end in a Draw or Chennaiyin winning by a narrow margin.
