UCL Match Review : Tottenham Hotspur vs Juventus

Tottenham’s ambition for the quarter-final place in champions league was torn apart Juventus defeated Spurs with a scoreline of 2-1.After the 2-2 draw in the first leg at Turin and first display of spurs, no one expected Juventus to make a such a dramatic comeback. Let’s take a look back at five things that made the headlines.

Tottenham have to learn and learn fast

Although Tottenham is a side who trying make themselves known at the European level but it will be matches like these that would test them in progress towards the European scene. Tottenham displayed throughout both legs but they failed to kill the game off in the second half which kept Juventus in the game and just when Spurs switched off for a few minutes Juventus took the advantage and got themselves an important victory. For Spurs to be a top European side its not about dominating the opposition for 60-70 mins in a game, it is about dominating the opposition in the key moments of the game which clearly did yesterday and earned themselves a champions league quarterfinal spot

The tactical substitutions by Juventus

The entire fate of the match was changed with a mere two substitutions by Allegri of bringing on Asamoah and Lichtsteiner. With Asamoah inclusion in the game, there was little shift in the formation of Douglas Costa moving to the left and the duo of Higuain and Dybala got closer and weaved the magic which led to the victory for the old lady.

Giorgio Chiellini the man of the match

Juventus started off with a back four where Barzagli and Alex Sandro as fullbacks and with Chiellini and Benatia as the center back’s but it was Chiellini who led the defense with a very impressive performance. Although Spurs scored only one goal in the first half they looked like scoring with every other attack and if it weren’t for the likes of Chiellini spurs would have definitely killed the game.

Gonzalo Higuain the perfect number 9 for Juventus

This was Gonzalo Higuain’s first match after his recovery but he showed the world why he has to be considered as one of the best number 9’s in the world.Although Higuain was not really appeared in the match for the first half he scored the goal when his team needed him to score which gave hopes for Juventus for a comeback and he held the ball up passed in the right areas which ultimately led to Dybala’s winner.

Problems Persist for Juventus

Though Juventus came out on top against Spurs, the win was certainly unconvincing just like their last weekend’s win against Lazio. With this kind of performance, Juventus will be struggling against like of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich who attack dynamically. Pablo Dybala has bailed this Juventus side out again and again. For Juventus to proceed further in this competition they would have to put much better performances.
