2016 edition champions Sunrisers Hyderabad looking to repeat the feat again with an well-balanced side at their disposal

Performance of Sunrisers in IPL has been assorted so far, they qualified for playoffs in their debut season but let down in following two seasons finishing at 6th in points table each time. They came back strongly in 2016 to lift the title for the first time and qualified for playoffs in 2017 as well. On balance they have won 53% of the matches out of total played in five seasons.

Troika of head coach Tom Moody, bowling coach Muttiah Muralidharan and mentor VVS Laxman has been breathing credit for Sunrisers’ success on behalf of their game plan at auction to gather a good combination and strategies during matches, this year also this troika did wonderfully well at grand auction to pool a well balanced squad for the forthcoming IPL season.

Let’s have a look into how the team has shaped up this season:

Batting :

Retained David Warner and carried through RTM Shikhar Dhawan will be seen gracing their opening slots, a twin that endorse the record of most hundred runs partnerships (5) while opening the innings in history of IPL. No further validations are needed to prove how strong is SRH on this front.

In all likelihood openers will be followed by IPL gemstone Manish Pandey (first Indian centurion of IPL) and Keeper Wriddhiman Saha who might be given the role of innings builder (Kane Williamson and Shakib are other options available according to team combination for different matches) and the hitters like Deepak Hooda, Yusuf Pathan, Mohammad Nabi, Carlos Brathwaite will take the onus of fiery batting in slog overs.

Their top 4 is as good as any team but batting below top four is capable but suspicious somewhere due to different reasons with different blokes, Hooda is a big name in domestic circuit but endorse a poor average of 14 in IPL, Nabi possesses the experience of only 3 matches in IPL, Yusuf Pathan has been out of touch in domestic cricket followed by absence in domestic T20 cricket due to doping reasons and Carlos Brathwaite hasn’t just proved himself as a credible batsman so far.

○Star man:

No brainer, it is captain David Warner who is the best overseas batsman in terms of runs scored in IPL history. He has the record of most fifties in IPL history by any batsman. For the Hyderabad franchise, he has been the highest run scorer in every season since he joined them in 2014, in agreegate he has scored 2579 runs in 59 games he played for them at an average of 52.63  and strike rate of 147.70 with 26 fifties and sole century. SRH would be hoping for another such performance from him.

Rating :- 8.5/10

●Bowling:-

Led by Bhuvaneshwar Kumar and Rashid Khan who are not penurious to any introduction, SRH has rolled up a great batch of bowlers in the grand auction. They have options in abundance to choose from in both departments, pace or spin. Among pacers, to assist Bhuvi, comes Sandeep Sharma (carries the experience of 56 matches with economy rate under 8), Kaul (has emerged as an accurate bowler since previous IPL followed by great outings for India A), Basil Thampi (emerging player award winner of IPL 2017) , Billy Stanlake (can overawe wih sheer pace) and young turks Natrajan and Khaleel Ahmed who seem to have plenty and ready to Burst onto the scene.

In the spin department Rashid will be seen supported by Shakib, Nabi, Bipul, Yusuf and Hooda. It seems a pretty well balanced pool.
There is no glaring flaw visible in their bowling unit as they have great options for every phase of an bowling innings.

○Star man:-

A tad tougher between Bhuvi and Rashid but it has to be Bhuvi who has claimed purple cap for consecutive years in 2016 and 2017 which is a record in IPL. He has been taking maximum wickets for Sunrisers every season since he joined them in 2014. As aggregate he had picked 87 wickets for SRH in 59 matches at an average of 18.51 and a strike rate of 15.38 at a parsimonious rate of 7.22 RPO. Once again Bhuvi’s performance will be crucial for Sunrisers Hyderabad’s chances.

Rating:- 9.5/10

Fielding:-

Warner, Manish, Dhawan etc are accredited athletes on thr cricket field. As Wicket-keeper they have international asset Saha, no worry at all on this front as well. Actually they seem to have picked no tardy player, they are bound to do very good In this section.

○Star man :
David Warner again, an epitome of enthusiasm and dynamism who seems to have presence all over the ground by himself. He is one of the best in the business, be it fielding close in to batsmen, be it saving runs on the boundary lines in slog overs.

Rating:- 9/10

●Captaincy:

Outof 82 matches SRH played in IPL, David Warner has led them in more than half matches (45), under Warner in three seasons they have qualified for playoffs two times, emerged as champions as well in 2016.

Shrewd captaincy in IPL has even instituted Warner as a strong pretender of captaining Australian T20I side replacing incumbent Steven Smith.
Yeasty David warner has been performing captain’s role with devotion, another stint of that SRH fans will be looking for!

Rating :- 9/10

●Coaching :

As coaching staff they have probably the best knot in form of Moody, Laxman and Muralitharan who have proved themselves in past seasons. With new guys joining the team, this bunch will find new responsibility to made them accustomed with old players, no doubt they are fully capable of this!

Rating:- 9/10

●Writer’s view :

With so many one better than other options available for batting slots beside openers, SRH will face a sweet headache while electing starting eleven. They have the liberty to pack their pace bowling section with Indian pacers, so performance of indian batsmen like Manish Pandey, Wriddhiman Saha and Deepak Hooda might be decisive for Sunrisers Hyderabad. For this team management need to trust themselves by giving them chances to bat in top order preceded by openers. This thing will keep out the likes of Kane and Shakib (as both are top order batsmen mainly) while Nabi and Carlos becoming their two other foreigners alongside confirm Warner and Rashid khan.

Warner/Dhawan/Saha/Manish/Hooda/Nabi/Carlos/Rashid/Bhuvi/Kaul/Thampi.

It should be the starting line up in my view, great thing in this line up is that below number 4, everyone can bowl. I believe this composition is potent enough to take them to the last four at least.
