Recent Form :
East Bengal was in the pole position and had to win the last 2 games for grabbing the long awaited I-League. They drew against Shillong Lajong and NEROCA and their dream was shattered. After I-League, officials have appointed veteran Subhash Bhowmick as the Technical Director who has travelled to Bhubaneswar with the team. Coach Khalid Jamil’s future too will be decided on the result of Super Cup. A positive result in the tournament will be a boost up for securing a job in this Club although according to sources, Jamil will not be at the Red and Gold tent next season irrespective of the team’s result in Super Cup. For East Bengal, it would be a chance to wipe out partially the burden of 14 years of not lifting the top flight league by lifting this trophy.

After another disappointing season in the ISL, Mumbai City FC will be looking to end the season on a positive note. After the ISL, they’ve released their 5 foreigners and they’ll be relying on their Indian brigade to do better job. In the qualifying match for the Super Cup, they defeated Indian Arrows by 2-1.

Match Details :

The match will be played in Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar on 5th April Thursday at 8pm.

Writer’s Take:

After the debacle in the I-League, it would be the last chance for East Bengal to something cheer about. Where as Mumbai City FC will be relying on their Indian brigade to get past the hurdle of the Red and gold brigade. It would be an exciting game to look out. Mumbai City will have to give their all to churn out anything positive against a full strength East Bengal squad.
