Indian Women Basketball team took on Jamaica in their first matchup in Commonwealth Games 2018. They lost the game 66-57 in a disappointing start. Here are 5 talking points which stood up in the game.
●Rebounding:
They got out rebounded by 20, specially allowing 19 offensive rebounds. Rebounding is a team effort. Giving extra possessions always hurts, that too by this much margin.
The team must be more careful about it from next match.
●Fouls:
India faced foul issues giving up 24 free throws. They acquired 17 easy points which possibly became the difference. India went to line just 8 times.
● Lot of 3s:
India settled for twenty three 3s making only 7 of them. Low percentage shooting and no change of plans results in shortcomings on every opportunity.
The team needs to improve this if they want to progress.
●Lack of Productivity:
Raspreet Sidhu and Barkha Sonkar had 7 and 0 points playing 32 and 28 minutes respectively. The productivity of individuals should increase in a short format like this playing so many minutes.
●Shireen Shinning:
Shireen Limaye showed great promise and she was efficient from field too. India will look forward to her for a comeback. Jeena Skaria showed up too but wasn’t enough.
India’s next match is against Malaysia. It’s a must win game now to keep their hopes alive. They need to be more disciplined and try to avoid those small mistakes.
