Liverpool struck thrice against mighty City as Pep Guardiola seemingly set to miss UCL Semis again
UEFA Champions League nights are always memorable at Anfield, the reasons can vary from amazing crowds to memorable goals to extraordinary moments the Liverpool club and ir’s supporters offer at the grandest stage of European club football. Last night it was no different as one of the most consistent teams in European competition history and 5 times European champions delivered another magical night at anfield which the soon to be crowned English champions would like to forget. Jurgen Klopp’s men were ruthless, relentless and their energy and dedication on the field was just tireless. Life of a Liverpool fan is not always easy as most of the times after having a couple of amazing encounters and initial show of absolutely flawless football within a match, this team can bottle up and throw away all the good work done previously. But last night it was different, Liverpool were too hot to handle as Manchester City were just simply outclassed by the efforts and tactics of Jurgen Klopp’s men. We noticed a lot of points to talk about last night but have handpicked 5 of them which specially came to the observation.
● Clueless City :
Within the first half an hour of the match City were left in shambles as Liverpool went 3-0 up and were looking threating to create more nuisance. City defence was facing a nightmare as the deadly trio of Salah, Mane and Firmino were giving them no chance to rest and they were continuously sent to the back foot by the amazing display of attacking football by Liverpool. City on the attack had zero shots at goal something which amazes the football World as this is the number one team in English football right now having few of the best attacking footballers in the World in the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Leroy Sane, Gabriel Jesus and David Silva. Such was Liverpool’s defence that they didn’t even allow City players to get at least a single shot at goal on target.
● Experience Matters :
Captain Jordan Henderson and James Milner, two the of the most experienced veterans in the heart of Liverpool midfield were absolutely amazing as they not only created chances for the attackers of their team to play heavy metal football but defensively also they pressed City attackers so much that their passing rhythm became unstable and they were not able to feed their attackers the desired balls in the opponent goal post.
● Ox curse turns into boon :
Alex Oxlade Chamblerlein, a name which is making round in the lips of Liverpool fans has become a hot prospect in English football recently as he is beginning to show up how good a player he is and why Jurgen Klopp had so much faith in him. In his initial days, in the away match against Man City which was one of the poorest displays of football by Liverpool this season was considered as a result of the curse Ox has brought into the club after he left Arsenal in a very controversial way. But boy oh boy how this lad has turned things around! Scoring two spectacular goals at Anfield against the similar opponents one being last night, he has silenced to all those critics who thought Ox was just another over rated English talent.
● Klopp has got Pep’s number :
Pep Guardiola might as well be considered one of the best managers in the World but against Jurgen Klopp his record tells a different story. Even after such a big reputation, a World class squad and a strong financially backed club, Jurgen Klopp seems like having Pep’s number as Pep has always had a tough time facing Klopp’s men. Bundesliga or Premier League, this two World Class managers have produced one of the best rivalry in World football as football fan are always assured of a match of high class with multiple goals when this two World class managers come toe to toe. Klopp’s records against Pep after their arrival in Premier League gives you a glimpse of this rivalry, as Klopp has won 3 times against Pep losing one and drawing one in their 5 encounters.
● Liverpool defence looks solid :
When was the last time Manchester City had lost a game with no shots on target? Last it was in the year 2016 that City were offensively clueless and and had registered no shots on target like yesterday. Van Djik – Lovren Centre-back combo looks solid as they have not let City attackers dominate them for a single moment, they always seemed to have a better of them and didn’t let them even get in to desired attacking positions. Fullbacks were also on song as 19 year old Trent Alexander Arnold has his best game in Liverpool T-shirt last night as the in-form Leroy Sane was completely owned by Trent on the right side stopping almost every possible potential attacking threat from him. And of course the 8m wonder Andy Robertson, game after game he is putting World class performances and yesterday also was no different. One of the best left-back in Premier League right now may very well soon be considered one of the best in Europe.
