Mexico, former world champion Orlando “El Siri” Salido was arrested earlier today in his native Ciudad Obregón, Sonora.

Salido, who is candidate for local deputy for District XVI of Ciudad Obregon, was arrested this morning for allegedly taking 16 cans of beer from a convenience store.

According to information from the Municipal Police that was provided to El Universal, the boxer was arrested shortly before 7:00 am, when he was reported for taking alcoholic beverages without paying.

An employee of the store located in the Cortinas neighborhood, informed the boxer, who was accompanied by three other men, that beer could be sold until 8:00 a.m.

Ignoring the employee, the four of them walked out with the beers.

The police were called and the boxer was arrested and taken to the police headquarters located at 300 and Jalisco streets, where he left around 11:30 am after paying a bail of 800 pesos (around $41).

Not Salido’s first brush with the law in recent months.

Earlier this year, it was reported that Salido was arrested on December 31 after becoming involved in a physical altercation at a bar in downtown Sonora.

Salido (44-14-4, 31 KOs) has been out of the ring since suffering an unexpected knockout loss at the hands of Miguel Roman last December in Las Vegas.

In the aftermath, Salido announced his retirement from the sport, but then a few days later he stepped away from that position and announced that he would resume his career.

Salido is still the only man to defeat one of the top pound-for-pound boxers in the sport, Vasyl Lomachenko. Salido won a close decision over Lomachenko back in March of 2014 – in what was Loma’s second pro fight.

A rematch was discussed several times, but the two sides were never able to fully agree on terms.

Salido is still planning to return to the ring in the next few months
