Analysis Of Spain NT Ahead Of FIFA World Cup In Russia

The mighty Spanish squad or the ‘La Furia Roja’ are an exuberant contender to emerge victorious in the upcoming football fiesta in Russia. Spain stands as one of the eight teams to ever win a World Cup by defeating Netherlands in 2010 in South Africa to win their first ever World Cup. The squad has been unbeaten since boss Julen Lopetegui took over in July 2016. Spain are surely one of the favourites to lift the World Cup in Russia but first they need to make an impact at their exciting Group B consisting of Portugal Morocco and Iran besides them. Let us take a look at their squad.

The Manchester United saviour David De Gea is undoubtedly the first choice for gaffer Lopetegui after the dispense of former captain Iker Casillas, alongside Pepe Reina ( Napoli ) as a Substitute and Kepa Arrizabalaga (Athletic Bilbao) as the third choice. The goalkeepers’ list looks very robust as they are expected to keep the gates closed for the opponents.

The sturdy Spanish defence includes Sergio Ramos and Gerard Pique as Center Backs. The Real Madrid skipper has been declared the Spanish leader. The Barcelona center-back Pique is also a very important part of the Spanish Football Team. In the full back position, Barcelona’s Jordi Alba and Madrid’s Dani Carvajal are also guaranteed of their places in the squad this summer. The list contains the other talented lads including Nacho Fernandez, Gerard Pique, Alvaro Odriozola (Real Sociedad), Nacho Monreal (Arsenal), Cesar Azpilicueta ( Chelsea) and so on.

The Barcelona legend Andrés Iniesta is accompanied by very talented players like Sergio Busquets ( FC Barcelona), Saul Niguez, Koke (both Atletico Madrid), Isco, Marco Asensio (both Real Madrid), Thiago Alcantara (Bayern Munich), David Silva (Manchester City). The La Roja midfielders are experienced and regular first team players for their respective teams and are expected to not let a single ball sip in through them. Manchester United’s Juan Mata has also drifted out of the scene since the arrival of Lopetegui. Mata’s club-mate Ander Herrera has never quite forced his way into the national team and is an unsurprising omission.

The Forward line up includes Iago Aspas (Celta Vigo), Rodrigo (Valencia), Diego Costa (Atletico Madrid), Lucas Vazquez (Real Madrid). Former Spanish forward David Villa has been omitted out of the squad alongside Alvaro Morata who has been very disappointing since he joined Chelsea. Although Diego Costa, Aspas and Lucas Vasquez look very promising forwards for the team and are expected to score past the keepers frequently but the omission of Morata has acted as an eye-brow raiser.
