Kolkata giants Mohammedan Sporting Club did not have the best of time in I-League 2nd Division campaign. While they made a team with some pompous signings hoping to make it to the top flight, the campaign pretty much ended in a disaster as they finished 4th in the group behind TRAU, BFC reserves and Langsning in the preliminary round. Consequently the club management also saw some changes as Ghazal Zafar who was the Secretary and formed the team for 2nd Division was shifted to a different designation with Kamaruddin taking the main charge of team building for the Calcutta Football League.
According to sources, Mohammedan Sporting is in final talks with three foreigners all of whom have experience of playing in India. The three are Leonce Dodoz, Alfred Jaryan, Lancine Touré. Among the three, the Aizawl FC duo of Leonce Dodoz and Alfred Jaryan previously played for Mohammedan. Dodoz and Jaryan were integral part of Aizawl’s I-League and AFC Cup campaigns this season and performed quite well. Dodoz’s striking rate got better in the second half of the league after the arrival of Kashyap while Alfred Jaryan, the best player of I-League 2016-17 was the leader of the midfield. Ivory Coast defender Lancine Touré last played for Shillong Langsning FC in the I-League 2nd Division where his performances caught side of the Mohammedan recruiters.
If sources are to be believed then all three have verbally agreed to play for the ‘Black Panthers’ in the upcoming Calcutta Premier Division Football League but they are yet to put pen on paper.
Besides the foreigner trio, Mohammedan Sporting has also made some significant signings in the form of goalkeeper Priyant Singh, winger Sumit Das and full-back Tonmoy Ghosh. Priyant has previously wore the ‘Black and White’ jersey, while Sumit Das played well for Bengal in the Santosh Trophy and Tonmoy Ghosh was with East Bengal last season mainly as a ‘benchwarmer’ and will be looking forward to some first team action this season.
