Statistically England’s best Test batsman Alistair Cook completed his 22000 First class runs. Playing his 501st innings in first class cricket, Cook procured the attainment playing against Somerset at Chelmsford in a match of county cricket division one 2018. He played a stroke for 3 runs off Lewis Gregory to go pass the 22000 runs mark. Though he missed his well deserved century and trapped in front of the wickets off Dominic Bess on 96. Now his tally of FC cricket runs reached to 22089 in 501 innings with 61 centuries and 106 half centuries!

Doing so he became only the 181st batsmen in the history to achieve the milestone. He is the only one to score more than 20,000 First-class runs among players debuted after year 2000.

Alistair Cook has played First-class cricket for England, Essex, England A, England XI, England Lions and MCC. He has scored most of the runs for England (12145) followed by his county team Essex (7295) , another team for whom he scored more than 1000 runs is England XI (1715).

Going by opponents Cook has scored more than 1000 runs against each of top 7 test playing opponents with more than 2000 against Australia (2493) and India (2104) .

Among county teams he has scored the most runs 976 against Northamptonshire.

Alistair Cook made his first class debut in 2003 representing Essex against Nottinghamshire at Chelmsford and scored 69 not out in second innings. So far he has played 283 First Class matches averaging 47.50 with 61 hundreds and 106 fifties.

Cook has been seen as someone who can break Sachin Tendulkar’s record of most test runs. As for current standing now cook is behind Sachin by 3376 test runs and 3307 First-class runs as Sachin has scored 25396 and 15921 runs respectively in First-class cricket and test cricket.

Next prominent giant in the line who is likely to be surpassed by Cook in near future is West Indian Brian Lara with 22156 First-class runs to his name.

With age still being on Cook’s side and he only playing the longest format of the game primarily, he will be chasing Tendulkar’s First-class runs if not test runs with grand chances.
