TOYOTA YARIS LALIGA WORLD FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT: MELBOURNE CITY FC ALL SET TO FACE BLASTERS IN OPENER

Kochi will host the Toyota Yaris LaLiga World Football Tournament which will feature Local side Kerala Blasters FC, A-League¡¯s Melbourne City FC and Girona from Spain. Blasters and Melbourne City FC will face-off each other on Tuesday to kick-off the tourney.

This preparation will help Kerala Blasters in a better way for the upcoming Indian Super League (ISL) under David James. James will look to clinch the title for the first time as they weren¡¯t successful in the past considering big stage games played by the Blasters in ISL. Kochi side finished sixth in the table of last season of ISL under James, who took charge in the midway of the season. On the other hand, Melbourne City FC is flying to India after finishing their impressive A-League campaign.

Warren Joyce will coach the City Football Group owned club from Melbourne. Melbourne City FC finished third in the A-League 2017-18 season under Warren Joyce. This pre-season tournament will be a good boost for them to kick-start their A-League in style and this is the first International pre-season tournament taking place in India. The stadium is expected to be packed and full considering Manjapada in mind.

Kerala Blasters have roped in some new players ahead of the new edition of the Indian Super League (ISL) and one such name is Dheeraj Singh, who is expected to start for Kerala Blasters against Melbourne City FC. Kerala Blasters also signed some local talents namely, Jithin MS and Afdhal VK who did very well for Kerala which earned them their place in the Kerala Blasters side. Sandesh Jhingan will lead the Kochi side with Anas Edathodika with some new players Slavisa Stojanovic, Cyril Kali is in the squad for this tournament. However, James might go with local talents to test them ahead of ISL.

This Melbourne City squad has some young players who are with the main team for the first time and it will be a challenge for them playing against big crowd in Kochi. Micheal O¡¯Halloran and Riley McGee will be in for Competitive games while academy players will play the rest. Daniel Arzani is having an extended break after his commitments with Socceroos in the 2018 FIFA World Cup and hence he will not feature for this tourney.
