52 years old, Alejandro Ménendez, will take the reign of Quess East Bengal FC from veteran Subhash Bhowmick, before the prestigious I-League. Ménendez will take the reign with his two assistants Carlos Nadar & Mario Ribera who are Gym Instructor & Video Assistant respectively.

Let’s discuss about the 5 important things which you should know about him.

1. Beginning :

Alejandro Ménendez, a well known name in grassroot level of Spain, started his managerial career at Sporting Gijon’s youth team. There he led the colts of Sporting Gijon to win the Copa Del Rey Juvenile on 2004. Sporting Gijon became runners up of Copa Del Rey Juvenile under his coaching on 2005.

2. The New Era In Real Madrid :

He got the opportunity to serve one of the best academies of Spain as well as of the world. He was the manager of Real Madrid Youth for 2 years. Players like Jose Callejon, Parejo, Antonio Adan were nurtured under his guidance. He was there for 2 years  (2007-2009). At that time Bernd Schuster, Juande Ramos & Manuel Pellegrini were in charges of Real Madrid.

3. Promotion :

He got the promotion after serving prestigious job at Real Madrid Youth Team. He was the manager of Celta Vigo B team from 2007-2008. And later he became the head coach of the Celta Vigo on 2008 for the short span of time. And again he returned to serve the B team of Celta Vigo. He had a winning percentage of 40.54 on 2007 & 39.47 in the 2008.

4. Journey At Real Madrid Castilla :

He came back to Real Madrid Castilla where he had a winning percentage of 38.60. Jose Mourinho was the manager of Real Madrid at that time. Under the tenure of Menendez, Real Madrid Castilla won 22 matches, drew 14 matches & lost in 21 matches. A bunch of present superstars were nurtured under his tenure in the Castilla. Players like Dani Carvajal, Juanfran, Juanan (Currently playing in Bengaluru FC ), Luis Hernandez, Marcos Alonso, Nacho, Dennis Cheryshev, Rodrigo were coached by him. After thar he took the charge of Racing Santander. He could not avoid the club’s relegation to the third level, and subsequently left the club.

5. Asian Dreams :

The turning point of his managerial career came when he left Spain & joined Buriram United of Thailand. There he won the domestic treble with the winning percentage of 53.37. In 2014, he left Buriram United after winning  Toyota Premier Cup and the Kor Royal Cup & joined Chinese club Guangdong Sunray Cave F.C. One year later he returned for the Celta Vigo B team. There he led Celta Vigo B team ahead of a terrific performance with the winning percentage of 63.64. Then he managed the Spanish team Bustos.

Menendez will arrive during the latter part of the I-League. A Spanish thinktank worked well for one Kolkata side ATK, now it remains to be seen whether it works at East Bengal as well.
