What Went Wrong For Mourinho & Co Against Brighton : A Post-Mortem 0

unnamed 1 1 - What Went Wrong For Mourinho & Co Against Brighton : A Post-Mortem

After a dominating opening day win at Old Trafford, United went to Amex stadium to take on Brighton and looking forward to get the momentum for a very long season ahead. But Chris Hughton’s men not only beat uinted but they were absolutely outstanding against the the Red devils. Jose had made three changes in the starting line up as Anthony Martial started a match after a long wait.

Early Control By The Home Side:

As the gamne started it didn’t take long for Brighton to show their real potential. They were having a lot of the ball as the visitors were just happy to sit back and defend with lot of players behind the ball. But the double pivots of the red devils looked very shaky from the start.

Though the best chance for the opening half fell to Lukaku but the big Belgian squandered his chance to open his account for the season.
Unlike Lukaku Glen Murray took his chance quite superbly as he executed a stunning finish to beat David De Gea. Everybody was expecting from United a flair or urgency but the home side doubled their lead in less than two minutes as Duffy scored from a corner that was not at all well defended.

Childish Defensive Display By The Two Center Backs:

This match quite clearly showed why United were making those last ditch transfer moves for Alderweireld and Harry Maguire. Shambolic defense cost Jose all three precious points as this early blow could be a season changer. Eric Bailly was horrible alongside Lindelof who slightly had a better game. Perreira the Brazilian couldn’t really offer defensively in front of the main defense line as United clearly missed the discipline of Nemanja Matić.

What Exactly Is Their Style Of Play? :

Counter attacks? High pressing? Quick passing? Possession based football? Exactly how United play, there’s no particular answer to it. Now, the old Jose teams, they used to be very dogged, very disciplined and they loved to control the opposition without having the ball. To execute his kind of football you ought to have players with immense focus and discipline. And I think that is the main problem for this United side. Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial, Sanchez are not at all players to execute this kind of football.

On Sunday Jose made 2nd half changes immediately after the start of the half. Though it was attacking changes like Lingard and Rashford it didn’t make any significant impact in the game. As of the last game United were simply trying to score with absurd long balls but that can’t be the tactics of a club like United’s stature.

Big Worry For The Upcoming Clash With Spurs:

After a horrendous Sunday, United definitely needs to buckle up real tight as Spurs are coming to Old Trafford. This game can either bring the confidence back among the group or can rile up mountain of pressure in Jose and his players. Nemanja Matic and Valencia are back at training but still there is no confirmation of them starting. The fans were really disheartened by the attitude of the players on the pitch which could lead to a possible Mourinho sacking. A lot at stake for the charismatic Portuguese in the upcoming mouth watering clash, he changed his tactics in the post match interview and it’s just a matter of time to see him shut all his critics one more time.
