The Kolkata based ISL Franchise ATK had started their pre-season at Spain one week ago. The ‘Flying Tigers’ started at Pinatar Arena with a few Indian players failing to travel with the team due to visa dilema. But all problems seem to have got resolved as we found the whole team along with the gaffer Steve Coppel and the supporting staff present during their first pre- season friendly against Lorca FC, which they won by 1-0. Credits to spot kick turned goal by Nigerian signing Kalu Uche.
From the first half ATK seemed to be a better side as their midfielders Eugeonson and Komal were doing a brilliant job. The defence was also concrete headed by newly signed John Jhonson. In the1st half Komal was on a solo run when he was brought down within the box by the opposition that lead to the spot kick which Kalu didn’t fail to turn into fruit. The red and whites are scheduled to play their next friendly against a bit tougher side Real Murcia Club de Fútbol on 4th of September. The Spanish side is a regular top table dweller in the Segunda División B with ending the previous season third.
ATK this time has got a very well balanced team with the best foreign and Indian signings till now in ISL5. They have got a perfect blend of youth , experienced and talented players which definetly makes them one of the probable finalists of ISL5. Sources say that Coppell is very eager to win and do well in the pre-season friendlies as he wants to finely tune his boys before the opening clash against Kerala Blasters on 29th of September. The team is scheduled to return Kolkata by 20 th of September.
