Sukhdev Singh, the defender who played a pivotal role in Minerva Punjab’s I-League victory last season has been suspended for four months by All India Football Federation.
After delivering prominent performance for Minerva, Sukhdev caught attention of the Kolkata giants. Although East Bengal officially announced that they have signed Sukhdev, Mohun Bagan just few days later claimed that Singh is in fact their player and Srinjoy Bose claimed that they have given him advance payment as well.
The ball automatically went to the court of AIFF with both East Bengal and Mohun Bagan being involved in the matter. After the case remaining pending for quite some time, AIFF has finally given their verdict which says that Sukhdev Singh has to remain out of action for four months as a punishment of signing for one club for more money inspite of already being contracted to another club.
This will naturally put the Bagan think-tank in pressure as Sukhdev was thought to be an integral part of their side in I-League. Now it remains to be seen whether the Green and Maroon go for signing a new defender.
