In a latest order passed by AIFF Players’ Status Committee, Quess East Bengal FC has been barred from any further transfer activity untill 31st January. In the same order Bagan defender Sukhdev Singh has also been suspended for four months.
The issue of East Bengal being imposed a transfer ban came into limelight after a tweet by Minerva Punjab owner Ranjit Bajaj where he uploaded a portion of the order of AIFF and praised them for the decision. In relation to that he also criticized some East Bengal officials where he said,”Sad that such a great historic club East Bengal FC is being dragged into these kind of controversies all the time just because idiots at the helm like Nitu Sarkar and Alvito D’Cunha”. The spat between Bajaj and the Red and Gold officials is well documented for which the Minerva owner also was punished by AIFF previously and fined a hefty sum.
This transfer ban has automatically raised eyebrows of the East Bengal management and they are preparing to appeal against the order soon. If this punishment prevails then East Bengal will not be able to sign any more player(Indian or foreigner) and will have to play the early part of the I-League with the current squad.
