When India’s U-17 World Cup star signed for Kerala Blasters then that made headlines across all media in India. The young shot-stopper is considered by many as the future star of Indian football or some might say he is already a star.
Ahead of the opening match of the new season of the Indian Super League involving Blasters and ATK, Kerala Blasters gaffer David James was asked by us how important is Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem to the squad and what’s James’ expectations from him this season. In response to that James gave a feeling that Dheeraj has yet a long way to go to impress the former England goalie.
David James said with Sandesh Jhingan seated beside,”In this tender age he needs to look upto the likes of Sandesh to see what can be achieved in the game. But regarding my expectations regarding him is as any individual in the team.”
The Blasters Head Coach then hinted that Dheeraj will find it hard to feature in the first XI of the team in this competition as he said,“There’s no guarantee that he will play for us. There’s no guarantee that he will ever play for KBFC underneath me because there’s no guarantee that he will perform at the level in the training setup what I require from him in order to get picked.”
Having said that he had appreciative words for the young goalie as he added,”Having said that, the reason why I selected or rather we selected him is because he is a talented young player who proved himself very much so in the U17 World Cup.”
David James also talked about his training or trial stints at UK,”He travelled to England and Scotland and had good training there. The feedback from the people involved with that training was very positive.”
He concluded his take on Dheeraj saying, “I personally have a lot of expectations from him just like I have from all my players” with Jhingan giving a smiling nod from the side.
