The purple-yellow mat is all set to welcome Pro Kabaddi League season 6, ready to start by October 7th with huge expectations from fans all over the world ahead of new season. With twelve teams’ fighting for the title in this edition of PKL, Tamil Thalaivas is one team to watch out for led by Ajay Thakur. The Chennai franchise owned by IQuest Enterprises Pvt. Ltd and Blasters Sports Ventures Pvt. Ltd together is coached by K Baskaran and will play from Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium, Chennai.
Tamil Thalaivas were one of the expansion teams that became a part of the PKL 2017. Last time around they got on board Indian captain Ajay Thakur and retained him this year. With Ajay, Thalaivas also retained Amit Hooda and C. Arun, with the duo forming a strong backbone of Thalaivas with Thakur.

With a clear strategy and some shrewd buys, Thalaivas managed to build a strong team and picked up a lot of players on their base price, snapped a number of bargain buys in the Player Auction held at Bengaluru. Tamil Thalaivas acquired experienced Manjeet Chiller, Jasvir Singh, Sukesh Hegde, Darshan.J, D. Pratap, Rajnish and Anand as young new players.

Squad Strength – 19

Tamil Thalaivas will be led from the front by the Indian captain Ajay Thakur, who was retained primarily before the auction took place. The squad this season has a good balance having strong raiding line up, led by the warrior Ajay Thakur having Frog Jump as his signature move. He has scored 549 points in 80 matches with 21 super 10’s and 18 super raids, also has 20 defensive points to his name. With the support of Scorpion Kick specialist, Jasvir Singh having 366 points in 61 matches and running hand specialist Sukesh Hegde having 209 points in 49 matches and some young talents, Thalaivas raiding department is quite strong for opposition’s defense to stop them.

The defensive side has the support of experienced all-rounder Manjeeth Chiller who has 455 points in 74 matches (212 points in raiding + 243 points in defense) and can block opponents at any time. Sunil, the left corner defender has 96 points in 52 matches and Amit Hooda having a strong ankle holding skill has 151 points in 54 matches with 11 super tackles and 5 high 5’s to his name and with support of other young defenders Thalaivas defense seems to be unbreakable.

Another interesting point in Thalaivas Squad is the Ajay – Manjeeth duo. They have previously played for Bengaluru and Pune franchises together and have managed to bring their team to playoffs, so can this duo bring Tamil Thalaivas to the playoffs this season? This is the big question .

○ Raiding – 8.5/10
○ Defense – 9/10
○ All-round – 8/10

○ Overall – 8.1/10

Tamil Thalaivas did not have a good season last year. They managed to clinch only 6 wins in their 22 matches played. They are the team with least points scored last season with just 681 points and had conceded 752 points in 22 matches they played. The raiding department scored 410 points and the defenders defended 201 points in 22 matches. With 17 super tackles and just 5 super raids overall last season, Thalaivas look to come back banging from their last years poor performance.

Thalaivas when compared to season 5 are now lot stronger with a team fighting for the trophy. Thalaivas led by experienced campaigners of the nation, Ajay Thakur, Manjeeth Chiller and Jasvir Singh the team has a lot of experience. The team is very well balanced with raiders, defenders and all-rounders perfectly. The Thakur – Chiller duo have created a belief of seeing Thalaivas in the playoffs this season.
