The two times ISL champions ATK once again had a bad luck as they lost to NorthEast United FC with one man sent off from their side. But the Brazilian star Gerson Viera and John Johnson turned to be the best performers as they did a good job by disallowing the NEUFC strikers to push the ball to the net quite a number of time. Johnson was also adjudged the best player of the match.
After the match we caught up with thr Brazilian star of ATK- Gerson Vieira who once represented Brazil in U17 World Cup alongside Neymar and Coutinho and got his opinion.
When asked about his take on the two consecutive red cards of Ralte, Gerson assured that “The second one might be a foul but the first one had no chance as both of them was going through the same way to the ball.” He seemed a bit harsh on the referee’s decision as the officials failed to understand the climax of the situation. “We had nothing to do but accept as it was his choice”, he added.
The only better thing for ATK in the match was the partnership between former BFC man Johnson and Gerson Viera. The crowd saw some beautiful clearances and anticipation from this talented duo. While being asked about his partnership with the former Middlesborough man Gerson said, “I am very happy to play with such a guy like him. We played only two games but me and Johnson were able to provide a solid and strong game as our communication is good. Game by game we are learning each others movements and as the league proceeds we will be better.”
He is happy with these things but he fills hurt for the fans as the team is not able to win, “I on behalf of the team is sorry to the ATK fans as we couldn’t earn the win today though we fought hard.” The centre-back thanked all the ATK faithfuls for coming out and supporting for them. He also assured that they will train hard and will come back stronger.
The Kolkata based ISL franchise is next scheduled to play their away match against Delhi Dyanamos. Viera stated it will be harder for them to take back all the points home but he gave the hope of bringing back the lost glory to the most successful franchise in ISL history.
