Chennai City FC will start their campaign against Indian arrows at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium Coimbatore today in the season opener of I-League.
The Chennai Gaffer Akbar Nawas along with Michael Regin(Captain) attended the press meeting, as the head coach clearly insisted that he is going to play possession based football and wants to follow the same pattern what he had done in previously managed clubs.
“We are here to build from back(defence) to the attack through direct or tactical distribution”, he said which shows that he is going to adopt the possession based football to his club. The head coach also knows that an upset can be caused in the season opener by Indian Arrows as he said, “They are young, fearless, mindful and can also shock the opposition on their day”. He also added that Indian Arrows is built with strategies and tactical approaches makes the team a solid team.
“We have four Spanish players who all are good assets. One at back, two in midfield and one in the forward gives formidable strength to the club”, said Nawas. These Spanish players are not only going to ply their trade in India but are also clearly trying to teach and add international experience and Spanish flavour to his side and would help the local talents of Tamil Nadu. “I am interested to see the performance tomorrow on the field between the Spanish and local players and want to know how they pair both upper half and lower half of the field”, Akbar Nawas added.
By knowing the talents in Indian Arrows, he clearly stated that “It is not an easy game to start against Indian Arrows as they push and pressurize every position in the field, so we need to be on our heels to fair them”. The gaffer also said, “There is good communication among Spanish players and the locals, the local players helping Spanish players to learn English phrases and good accents that they can understand”.
After the head coach, the captain Michael Regin started his conversation by saying, “This is good experience for me and the local players of Tamil Nadu to mix up with international players and the coaches with different playing styles and flavour”
He also told that in his past season he was injured a lot which limited his playing minutes and caused anxiety for him. “Now I am fully fit and interested to start a new season with my team” he said. Akbar Nawas also hinted that “If my team doesn’t perform well then we should ask ourselves why we didn’t perform well…we are here to compete in this league” and ended his conversation by saying “let’s have fun in the field tomorrow”.
Michael Regin sounded confident while he said, “If Aizawl and Minerva can shock the World, why can’t we? We are here to shock the league and want to win the title.”
