The franchise from the ‘City of dreams’ locked horns against the ‘City of joy’ at the Mumbai Football Arena playing against each other for the 10th time. Mumbai City FC hosted ATK to a goalless draw in a lukewarm battle where none of the teams created enough chances to create an impact on their favor. Here are some of the talking points from the clash :

Coppell’s inclination towards defensive formation :

Steve Coppell is renowned for his defensive formations as he likes to park the bus and try restricting the opponents from scoring. Though ATK has a robust defensive lineup which restricted the Mumbai forwards from creating chances, both the teams failed to create any potential chances in the final third as neither of the goalkeepers was tested till the first half. So, it seemed ATK were happy to win a point from their away clash.

ATK forward chaos :

Recently, Kalu Uche was ruled out and sent to Barcelona for treatment after his serious injury. Emiliano Alfaro was then loaned from FC Pune City to strengthen the striking lineup for the Kolkata based team.

Unfortunately, the Uruguayan forward too faced an injury while training which ruled him out for a few weeks which left the side in a problematic situation to search for a replacement. They roped in Aussie Eli Babalj on warfoot basis who was benched in the match but the lack of a goalscorer has remained haunting the two time champions of ISL.

Mumbai missing on chances :

Mumbai City created fair chances throughout the game but failed to capitalize on them as the visitor’s right flank comprised of inexperienced and young Ankit Mukherjee and Komal Thatal. The Islanders could have utilized their left flank and test their naivety. Chances were created by Rafael Bastos twice at the 35th and 52nd minute of the match which they failed to convert.

Viewers disappointed :

Both ATK and Mumbai City FC are the lowest scoring teams of this season alongside Delhi Dynamos. The teams focused on playing long balls which resulted no positive creativity to the game and sadly the score line displayed a goalless draw till the last whistle was blown.

Both the teams missed out on critical chances which was not the only part to turn the viewers off completely but Mumbai City and ATK also had enormous passing errors throughout the entire game which was even frustrating to consume. It was pretty clear that both the city of joy and city of dreams didn’t have the dream to create joyful moments at the pitch as they were content taking a point from the match.
