Indian Arrows registered their second win in I-League after defeating Gokulam Kerala 1-0 at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on Friday evening. Amarjit Singh scored (66′) from the penalty spot after Vikram Pratap Singh was brought down inside the 18-yard box by Guilherme Castro.
Floyd Pinto made a solitary change to the starting XI as of the match against Aizawl FC as Narender made way for Rahul KP.
When asked about his thoughts on the match, Floyd said “On the balance of the entire game we deserved the three points. We were well organised and kept out a very strong, physical, athletic, good football playing side Gokulam FC.”
He added “We got the penalty, kept the clean sheet and fully deserved the three points. We had to be very compact and organised, and in the course of the game, we created the more clear-cut chances.”
Arrows just tasted victory for the second time this season, one and half months after their first one, when they defeated another all-Indian side Shillong Lajong FC.
Pinto’s side crawled up to the 9th spot with the win, just above Aizawl FC and below their opponents the “Giant Killers FC”, who are 3 points ahead of them with same games.
Arrows gaffer stated it’s been a fantastic campaign for them at home, with just one loss and seven points from the remaining nine.
He said “I hope we can keep up this form at home. I hope we can be difficult to beat, and what’s more impressive is this is our second clean sheet on the bounce.”
He stated if Arrows can play this way, keep out top teams like Gokulam and create their own chances and score some more goals, they can collect a lot of points through the course of the season and finish up much higher in the table as they are right now.
When asked about his thoughts on Amarjit Singh Kiyam, Pinto said “If Sunil Chettri is captain-leader-legend at the national team level, Amar is our captain, leader and future legend of the national team as well.”
He added “His performances keep getting better with every game, with every season, and I’m sure this is just the start. He is going to get even better through the I-League season and you’ll see much better performances by him. He leads by example. He is a professional on and off the pitch, and that’s what impresses us all.”
Indian Arrows next host Churchill Brothers on 30th December. The away side is suffocated with many injuries and will not get a completely fit first XI against Arrows. Floyd Pinto will try to capitalise on the Goan side’s disadvantage and get maximum points from the encounter.
