ATK Reserves had a good start in the Hero 2nd Division League as they beat the Kolkata giants Mohammedan Sporting Club with 0-2 on score line in the later’s home turf at Kalyani Stadium.

The full strength Mohammedan SC with foreign striker Philip Adjah suffered a huge blow as the young red and whites found the net twice with brilliance, credit goes to the strikers Thomyo and Azaruddin who converted their gaffer’s advice fruitfully in the game.

Talk Sports 24X7 got the happy and proud ATK Reserve gaffer Deggie Diago Cardozo in an exclusive post match interaction. The young man on side lines shared his take on the win with us.

A very good win for us as it’s an away game for us and it’s always better to get full points from the away games. I really like the way the boys played the game. They were excellent in the first half. But in the second half due to bad ground conditions the boys were a bit lazier. Over all they played well coming off with a good win.” said Deggie when asked about his reaction regarding their first win.

ATK Reserves created a lot of chances from the left flank that earned them both the goals. Cardozo told, “We were playing a lot of balls in the wings as we have Azar on the right and Gopi on the left, where they were very good with the ball. Yes they also tried to play more of combination game with Romeo and Ashis that found the net which was the best part of the game.” when Talk Sports 24X7 asked him about the sharp flank play.

The gaffer seemed more happy after defeating one of the Kolkata majors in their full strength as he told, “It’s always a good feeling to defeat a top team.”

Sumit Rathi the “Oreon of the match” along with other defenders showed a compact defensive feasability as they turned the home side hopeless every time when the MSC strikers tried to find some goal. “At the initial quarter Sumit was facing over load so I brought in Nabi to mark the striker and give free role to Brendon and Sumit. Nabi clicked well as he did well to mark the striker. On the other side Azhar did an excellent job. He shows a very good run with the ball and took a lot of load in the game , the free kick was also brilliant” said Diego on the reason of compact and organised pressing game from the flying tigers.

The whole team seemed to be in a good confident mould and is eager to dwell at the table top as the coach says, “We are now at the top of the table and we try to maintain that. The next game is a home one and we are confident enough to win it.”

ATK Reserves is scheduled with their first home game against the mighty TRAU on 17th of January at the Howrah Municipal Stadium and as the coach expressed the whole team is desperate to win it against the north east side to maintain top spot in the group table.
