Defending I-League champions Minerva Punjab although currently struggling in the Indian top flight, Ranjit Bajaj & Co. seems to be determined in making an impact in the upcoming ACL Qualifiers and AFC Cup (if fails to qualify for ACL). Minerva Punjab alongside defending ISL champions Chennaiyin FC will be representing India this season in the continental competitions.
Few days ago Minerva Punjab roped in former East Bengal star, Syrian midfielder Mahmoud Al-Amna. Now the club from Punjab have made another important foreign signing in the form of Juan Quero Barraso, a Spanish playmaker who is well acquainted with Indian football having previously played for DSK Shivajians in I-League with merit.
The diminutive Spanish playmaker has played for some illustrious names like Las Palmas, Elché and his hometown club Rayo Vallecano and was seen jostling shoulders with Real Madrid stars in a Copa Del Rey outing last season. The player has vast experience in Asian football also as he has previously represented the likes of Buriram United, Dubai Club and Chonburi.
Minerva Punjab have had second meanest defence in I-League this season conceding only 10 goals but their major problem lied upfront where they lacked enough goal-scoring or playmaking options. With the installations of two mercurial midfielders like Al-Amna and Juan Barraso, Minerva Punjab can now hope for a promising second half of the season both domestically and maybe continentally as well.
