Chelsea are looking to renew Hazard’s contract, which expires next season, and the west London side has the risk losing him for free in 2020 if he does not extend his current deal.
The Belgian star has been linked with Real Madrid following his splendid performance in the World Cup last year. He has been clinical in most of the club victories this season being the only player in the two digit figures with both goals and assists in Premier League, despite occasionally playing in a false nine role rather than his usual position on the wing.
Sarri wants the 28 year old to stay but he is against blocking the Belgian’s way if he wants a move to Los Blancos. The Chelsea manager has been looking forward to nurture youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi who has been a target for Bayern Munich.
“Eden is 28. If he wants to go, I think he has to go,” said Sarri, who rested Hazard in Chelsea’s FA Cup win over Sheffield Wednesday after his goal-scoring performance in the EFL Cup semi-final against Tottenham.
“Of course, I hope the opposite. I hope he wants to stay here with us and improve. He has the potential to be the best player in Europe at the moment. Sometimes he’s happy with something less.
“It’s my job to improve him and put him in a position to do his best. Sometimes I have to say something in the pressroom on that. It’s normal. It’s my job.
“But I was really very happy with the last performance.”
Sarri believes Hazard has the potential to be the best player in Europe. As a result he addressed stating that he should push through a move to the Santiago Bernabeu if he needs to push his boundaries of success in Spain.
