ATK returned to their winning form at home as they defeated Jamshedpur FC 2-1 with a terrific domination all through the match yesterday. It turned out to be an Edu-Lanza show as the Spanish Duo set the field in fire with Lanzarote scoring a brace from free-kicks all within the first half. This win kept alive the chances of ATK for the playoffs and also proved how much desperate the team is for the top four spot. Here are the talking points from this match.
● Edu Garcia the perfect target man in offence for ATK
Edu Garcia turns out to be the perfect bliss for ATK as he played his second game of this season and his first home games. The Spaniard continuously penetrated the JFC defence with his attacking skills. On the other hand Lanzarote made the best rapport possible with his former teammate to punish the visiting side. ATK seemed to be back with the offensive sharpness that they suffered most all through the season. Everton and Ricky turned a very good support from both the wings to the Spanish Duo as Edu came out with brilliant fitness and athleticism all through the match, thus making ATK the dominator at their den.
● Captain Lanza nails it well with terrific free-kicks :
Manuel Lanzarote bagged a brilliant record of first player in ISL to score brace from the free-kick in a single match as he scored consecutively with brilliant curling free kicks making Subrata Paul unable to even touch the ball for Jamshedpur. The captain proved his quality once again as he punished the visitors mercilessly with his prolific set piece skills. It’s the set pieces that completely turned the game on behalf of the Flying Tigers. JFC depended much on counter attacks but they missed the precision to turn those moves to the back of the net.
● Arnab performs brilliantly with in his first game of the season :
Coppell made a good move with his defence by giving chance to Arnab Mondal as the later kept his managers words with no nonsense defence. The former member of ATK’s Champion squad played a good game along with defensive general John Johnson. The ATK defence collapsed once as Ricky failed to make a mark of Mario Blasco as the Spaniard headed the ball perfectly to the back of the net.
● Too much long ball play for JFC proved detrimental :
Jamshedpur played the game depending much on long balls as they missed most of their target men. Faruk Chowdhury seemed the target man in the first half and made some good runs keeping ATK defenders on toes. But the sudden swing change for Faruk in the second half turned crucial as Kotal blocked Chendocha with ease. In the last quarters Jerry made some good move with ground passes and right crosses that made the ATK defence fimble a bit.
● Lack of goal difference may turn crucial for ATK to get into the playoffs :
The home side dominated the game well but ATK again failed to keep a clean sheet as conceding late goals seems to have turned to be a curse for ATK. At the last quarter ATK turned fully defensive that reduced their chace to increase the tally which may turn crucial for the playoff spot. Cause the Kolkata based ISL franchise is lacking in goal difference.
