Gokulam Kerala FC have been trying their best to stay out of the relegation zone, signing and releasing their overseas players but have failed to do so and are now placed on the 10th spot with 12 points from 14 games, just above probable relegates Shillong Lajong FC who have 10 points from 15 games.
The Keralites signed 27 years-old Caribbean Marcus Joseph from W Connection FC replacing Joel Sunday back in January. Marcus was the top scorer of TT Pro League last season with 18 goals in 16 games. Marcus has had a high start for the Malabarians and has scored twice in three appearances for them.
He was accompanied by the signing of 30 years-old Ghanaian forward Charles Teiko Folley. Folley had earlier played for various clubs in Cyprus and Egypt and he was expected to perform well in India. He was unfit and could not deliver when Bino George put him on to the pitch to gather at least a point from the match against Churchill Brothers SC back on January 10. He played every minute of the match against Minerva Punjab FC and was brought to the ground on 88 minutes against Mohun Bagan AC as a time wasting tactic. He has failed to perform well and has been released from immediate effect.
According to our sources, Charles Folley is replaced by 26 years-old Caribbean midfielder-cum-forward Russell Alfred. Russell played as an attacking midfielder for Central FC last season netting six times and assisting seventeen times in 18 appearances for the club. Akim Armstrong who scored fourteen times for Central FC last season, was assisted 11 times by Russell.
With a high quality player like Russell Alfred in their attack, Gokulam Kerala would be looking forward to fight their way out of relegation zone and finish in top six.
