The match between Churchill Brothers FC and Mohun Bagan ended in a 1-1 draw yesterday, a result which clearly did not serve the purpose of the Goan outfit which is fighting for the I-League glory. According to some, this draw have sent Churchill Brothers in the backseat regarding chances of lifting the trophy this season.
There was not much to talk about the match but Churchill Brothers management have marked something out which according to them could influence the outcome of the game. The two time top flight champions of India have written to AIFF, informing their annoyance regarding the refereeing of yesterday’s referee Maria Joseph Arokia.
Churchill Brothers’ complaint is regarding not showing a red card to Sony Norde on the 44th minute of the game while according to them the Haitian clearly deserved it. Churchill Brothers writes in the mail, “Mohun Bagan player with jersey number 50 Sony Norde captain was being shown the yellow card by the referee when the player Sony Norde unfairly and violently brushed aside the yellow card to the ground. Such a conduct called for a Red card which the referee ignored thus giving unfair advantage to Mohun Bagan”.
Churchill Brothers will next take on another Kolkata giant Quess East Bengal FC at Kolkata on 17th February and before that the Goan side wanted to grab full points from the home game. In the meantime it remains to be seen whether the Federation looks into the complaint as such complaint mails have become a norm almost from all the club officials in recent times, many of which are often supported by merit.
