It was a hard fought 2-1 victory for ATK yesterday over Delhi Dynamos which helped ATK finish at sixth position and secure a place in the round of 16 of the Super Cup. As the match was heading towards an insipid goalless draw it was Edu Gacia who opened the scoring for ATK before Nandhakumar pulled one back for Delhi Dynamos. Ankit Mukherjee came off the bench to score the late winner of
ATK. Let’s have a look at some major talking points of the game.
● Edu Garcia the Man of the Match :
Edu Garcia was the man who made the difference in the entire 90 minutes of the game. He played a part in both goals scored by ATK scoring one and assisting one. It was Pritam’s cross that found the Spaniard who was at the right place at the right time and if there was anyone on the pitch who deserved the goal it was him. And in the dying moments of the game Edu Garcia played a brilliant ball that found the substitute Ankit Mukherjee who netted the ball into the back of the net.
● Potential penalty kicks which could have changed the game :
Both the sides had quite a few shout-outs for penalty kicks which were called off by the referee. The most controversial moment of the match and the one which raised many eyebrows was foul of Tebar who was brought in for suspended Crespi on fellow Spaniard Edu Garcia which looked like a potential penalty for ATK but referee Ajithkumar Meetei signalled play on.
● Lallianzuala Chhangte the only driving force for Delhi :
Lallianzuala Chhangte was arguably the most hard-working player for Delhi on the pitch. Chhangte was making run after run into the box for the Dynamos although Pritam Kotal got most of the Chhangte runs covered but there were couple occasions when he got pretty close to the goal. And one such occasion Mihelic’s quick free-kick that sent him into the box, Johnson blocked off his first cross but the Mizoram-born on the follow-up provided a brilliant ball to Nandhakumar who found the back of the net.
● Coppell’s substitutions did the trick for ATK :
It was Coppell substitution to bring on Ankit Mukherjee for Komal Thatal that made the difference in the game as it looked like the game was going to end in a draw. Although we have seen Ankit Mukherjee playing at right back for quite a while now but today played further up the pitch and it was his callowness that made him go forward and score the late winner.
● Next Up for ATK The Super Cup :
With this last game against Delhi Dynamos ATK’s ISL 2018-19 is done and dusted but by finishing with 24 points at sixth place ATK has qualified for the Super Cup round of 16’s and they will be looking forward to do well in this tournament and bring the trophy to Kolkata.
