The 29-year old Nigerian Defender Kareem Omolaja joins Minerva Punjab FC on loan for three months from Aizawl football club.
Kareem who came through the ranks of Spartan Football Academy in Lagos, Nigeria is known for his solid defending and clean tackles on the ball. Naturally a centre-back, he can also play as central midfielder and occasional striker.
Kareem became a professional at the age of 17 by signing with Lagos based club Ola Oluwa Asejere FC in 2007, from where he moved to Libyan Premier League side Tersanah where he played for couple of seasons.
On January 2016, Kareem signed for Minerva Academy FC where he played in I-league 2nd division. On December 2016, Minerva Punjab was awarded a direct-entry spot in I-league for 2016-17 season.
Kareem made his I-League debut for Minerva against East Bengal on 29 January 2017 at Guru Nanak Stadium. He went onto make 26 appearances for the club along with scoring 8 goals throughout his stint with Minerva Punjab FC.
Aizawl FC signed Kareem on July 2017 who made his debut for the club in a round of 16 game of the 2017 MFA Super cup against Mizoram Police FC. He went onto make 17 appearances for the club along with 6 goals.
Ahead of the much important AFC Cup matches, it will only be a boosting addition for Minerva Punjab FC. It has to be seen how well this loan move works out for the Punjabi club.
