5. Past Few Days:
The Technical Committee of AIFF shortlisted 3 candidates who arw Gaioz Darsadze of Georgia, Romanian Doru Isac and Jorge Castelo of Portugal. While the other two candidates expressed their inability to travel to India and preferred to do the interview over Skype, Isac had made the long trip from United States, only to be stopped from leaving the Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport as there was some problems over VISA, & Isac had to interview via Skype from the Airport. From the sources, we’ve learnt Castello had the most attractive profile, but few positive qualities have worked for Isac. Besides the other two shortlisted candidates demanded higher wages compared to Isac.
● Author’s Take:
The main job of Technical Director is to act as an intermediary between the manager & the board and he may relieve pressure on a manager by handling aspects away from day-to-day coaching, allowing a manager to focus on on-pitch performance.
Doru Isac has an excellent track record as a technical director. But if we check the history of Indian football, the Technical Directors have always been kept unused. In most occasions AIFF have only kept their provisions in documentations and did not apply it practically which led to departure of the likes of Rob Bunn. So, Doru Isac has a tough assignment in hand and he can pull out anything positive from it only if he gets the support from AIFF.
