Classic Group of Hotels, the chief investors of NEROCA FC is on the verge of parting ways with the Imphal based I-League club. It seemed to be just few steps away for the ice to break as NEROCA FC President Arun Thangjam himself confirmed to Talk Sports 24×7 that, “It’s true that we are in the process of parting ways with NEROCA FC. Though we have not decided the final reason but we had some meetings now and we will have some more and will take some time” when asked about the speculation.
The investors are in a plan to establish a new football academy at Imphal to continue their contributions towards the development of Indian football. As it seems they are on a mission to create a replacement of NEROCA FC as Thangjom said, “We are in plans to open a new academy and wish to participate in the age group competitions and also in the 2nd division I-League in the coming future as we are on creating something similar to what we did here at NEROCA”.
NEROCA FC had terrific seasons under the Classic group as they made their debut in the 2nd division I-League in the 2015-’16 and won the league next season. NEROCA was thus promoted to the I-League and stood second in the first season of 2017-’18. This season they had a bitter experience as they remained at the sixth spot in the league table. Recently Indian star footballer Renedy Singh took over as their head coach.
Besides this the ‘Orange army’ was also organizing good grass roots programs that brought up quite a good number of footballers from the North-East of India.
In an earlier interview with Talk Sports 24×7 Arun Thangjam told he will stand beside Ranjit Bajaj in the court proceedings against AIFF if AIFF forcefully take the ‘top flight’ status of I-League away. But the wish seemed to have taken some other road as the Classic group has now decided to part ways. The situation is set to be cleared “within one week” as speculations gathers whether it’s AIFF’s indifference towards I-League clubs that forced the NEROCA FC investors to bring up a change in their plan.
