Star Indian national team defender Sandesh Jhingan is hoping to stay as a key member of the National team under the new head coach Igor Štimac. The talismanic defender talked to Talk Sports 24X7 and shared his thoughts and expectations.
Jhingan was all praise for the experience of the former Croatian Centre-back and coach and said he is looking forward to learn a lot from him.
“With his experience I think it’s great for Indian football especially after what he has achieved with Croatia in 2014 and now we know at what level Croatia is and him being one of the pioneers of that process it shows his positive vision as well”.
Štimac being a top centre-back of his time would be able to guide Jhingan technically as well as Jhingan says, “Also personally for me it’s big bonus as he was a center-back in his playing days and he had a great 1998 World Cup so I can learn a lot personally as well”.
The Kerala Blasters defender also added, “Indian football is striving to be in a better position and people should be patient with the new coach and allow the players to settle into his system, which he believes might bring great days for Indian football.
More importantly now it’s time for me and for the whole squad to adapt to his system as soon as we can and believe in the process, vision behind it and have patience as nation as well and support each other for more glories as I honestly believe that great days lie ahead for Indian football if we all stay together”, he concluded.
