The ISL sides are now busy in shaping their squad for the upcoming season. Amidst various rumours floating around, we can confirm that FC Pune City are keen on signing the 23 year old striker Ronaldo Oliveira from Salgaocar FC. Ronaldo was the highest goalscorer of the recently concluded Goa Pro League.
The player caught the eyes of FC Pune City during the Awes Cup held in Goa in pre-season. FCPC are ready to pay a transfer fee for the young striker. “We want him to come on trials with our coach for a week or so. If the coach thinks he can fit in his style of play, we would like to have him. Or else, we do not mind letting him play on loan for Salgaocar for another season and join us next year. He is young but with plenty talent,” an FC Pune City said.
Ever since the three big clubs of Goan Football namely, Dempo, Salgaocar and Sporting had withdrawn from the I-League, we have seen a huge drop in number of Goan players playing in the top division and also the national team. Young players from Goa are missing the opportunities to get spotted by the I-League/ISL Clubs. With players like Ronaldo shining in the Goa Pro League, it would lead way for other clubs to scout for players from the Goa Pro League in future.
