The Kolkata based ISL franchise ATK is set to make a big move with signing in the A-League Golden Boot winning striker Roy Krishna. After failing in the attacking third for the past two seasons, ATK are in search of a striking man who knows the back of the net well.
ATK is set to sign in the Indian origin Wellington Phoenix star Striker Roy Krishna for the upcoming season of ISL as Talk Sports 24×7 can confirm. The 31 year old Fijian striker has performed extremely well as he has been the highest goal scorer at A-League this season and his combination with David Williams made headlines all over the world making the latter the second highest goal scorer last season.
Krishna started his professional career in Football joining the New Zealand Football Championship (NZFC) side Waitakere United from Fijian local outfit Labasa FC in January 2008. Next he joined Auckland City in the year 2013 on a one year deal scoring 2 goals out of his 5 appearances. After this Krishna made the biggest move in his career till now as he joined Wellington Phoenix for the A-League in the same season of 2013-14 and spend the major part of his career with the “Nix”. Very soon he became a fan favourite as he scored 51 goals out of his 123 appearances in A-League. In his tenure of six seasons at Wellington Phoenix, Krishna has won the Golden Boot thrice he has been also been the Player of the Year Thrice. He has also made in to the FIFA team of the weak quite often. Besides league caps Krishna has also played in the FIFA Club World Cup.
At the end of the previous season ATK gave an offer to Krishna but earlier it was reported that the negotiation has failed as the Fijian probably has not agreed the offer initially. Krishna had offers from Korea as well but the deal did not go through. But it seems ATK has got the ball rolling as they are confirmed to bring in this prolific striker who is all set to leave Phoenix under their name.
In the last season ATK suffered a lot in their offence as most of their strikers failed to fetch the goal be it with the ball or the fitness making a drought of goals for the flying tigers that once were known for their terrific screamers. But in this transfer window the Red and White seem to be desperate to regain their spot as they have already made some terrific foreign and indigenous signings. Thus to restore the lost glory, Antonio Lopez Habas seemed to have brought in this ace striker to join Jobby in the attacking third finding the back of the net fulfilling the long void that ATK suffered last season. ATK are also in talks with Krishna’s partner David Williams as we reported earlier.
