Edu Garcia is all set to part ways with ATK as Talk Sports 24×7 can confirm. The 29 year old Spaniard joined the Kolkata based ISL franchise as a replacement in the mid-season last year as he was brought in to bolster the attack of the red and white who were struggling to find a target man at their offence throughout the season.
Initially the flying tigers extended the contract of Edu Garcia, midfielder Manuel Lanzarote and defender John Johnson till 2020 at the end of ISL but the ball seemed have to have rolled in other directions during the transfer season as the former BFC striker is set to bid adieu to the red and whites before the upcoming season.
Till now in the summer transfer window, ATK has signed Wellington Phoenix duo Roy Krishna and David Williams along with Carl McHugh in the defence and is expected to make few more moves to fulfil the voids.
Edu scored three goals and assisted twice out of his six appearances for ATK. His inclusion added some sharpness in offence as his combination with Lanzarote worked well helping ATK make a mid-table finish in the competition inspite of a devastating season under Steve Coppell.
Antonio Lopez Habas, the new head coach of ATK is well known for his game with prominent pace as he always likes to use players who add an extra speed to the wings. It seems the sloth off the ball movement of Edu Garcia compelled ATK management to opt for a better option as sources close to Talk Spprts 24×7 confirmed that it would have been tough for Garcia to fit into Habas’ tactics.
