India’s World Cup campaign ended in despair yesterday as they succumbed to a fierce Kiwi bowling attack at Edgbaston. On a day when the top order failed, Ravindra Jadeja, Rishabh Pant and veteran M.S. Dhoni steadied the ship and went near of clinching the game.
However after the match India’s one time ‘Captain Cool’ fell prey to widespread criticism from a big portion of his countrymen who believed that Dhoni’s slow batting cost India the game! Mahendra Singh Dhoni was thought to be announcing his retirement from ODIs after the World Cup but any such announcement is yet to arrive and even Virat Kohli said yesterday in the press-conference that MSD had not shared anything on his retirement with the team.
Amidst all these dilly-dally India’s ‘Nightingale’ Lata Mangeshkar tweeted requesting the World Cup winning Indian captain to not take retirement so soon. The Indian singing legend said, “Namaskar M S Dhoni ji.Aaj kal main sun rahi hun ke Aap retire hona chahte hain.Kripaya aap aisa mat sochiye.Desh ko aap ke khel ki zaroorat hai aur ye meri bhi request hai ki Retirement ka vichar bhi aap mann mein mat laayiye”. Thus the veteran singer has requested Dhoni not to even think of retirement at the moment.
Lata Mangeshkar rarely tweets on any individual cricketer except Sachin Tendulkar who she has often said is like her son. But her today’s tweet for MS Dhoni shows that she even in her late nineties keeps track of all the ongoings in Indian cricket. Now it remains to be seen what Dhoni does!
