The champions of I-League 2017-18 Minerva Punjab had a dismal season last time as the defending champions finished in the bottom half of the I-League table and also failed make it past the group stage in the AFC Cup. But the club from Punjab is seemingly making a competitive side this time around within a limited budget.
TalkSports 24X7 can confirm that Kiran Chemjong Limbu, the first choice goalie of the Nepal national team has been roped in by Ranjit Bajaj for the upcoming season. Kiran was a member of the I-League winning side of Minerva where he played eight times for the club before joining TC Sports Club of Maldives where he went onto win the Dhivehi Premier League, the top tier league of Maldives. He was also adjudged the best custodian of the tournament.
Kiran Chemjong is a regular for Nepal national team whom he has represented 65 times. He is preferred over other goalies like Ritesh Thapa and Bikash Malla in the national team. Kiran Chemjong may prove to be a good addition for the club as he is at the peak of his career and may prove to be a solution for Minerva’s goalkeeping problems from last season.
