Odisha FC official logo 680x390 - ISL Team Profile: Odisha FC

Odisha Fc, although the name might sound new to the Indian football lovers out there is not a new team. It came as a surprise to many, when Delhi Dynamos decided to switch base from the Country’s capital to Bhubaneswar, Odisha citing various economic factors and failure to maintain a sustained attendance for home games over the course of the seasons at the stadium. The move required a complete rebranding of the existing structure, including changing of club’s crests and logos.

Team Analysis:

  • Goalkeeping :

The goalkeeping department of Odisha FC boasts of the veteran Francisco Dorronsoro and also promising Indian custodian Albino Gomes. Although the Spanish keeper boasts Francisco boasts of having a plethora of experience, it is likely that the gaffer would be starting Albino Gomes in goal.

Rating: 8/10

  • Defence :

The team does look defensively solid, with the likes of Carlos Delgado, Lalchhuanmawia, Rana Gharami, Naryan Das as well as youngsters like Gaurav Bora and Sajid Dhot. Gaurav Bora had an excellent season for Chennai city FC in I league where he had an outstanding partnership with Eslava in defence. The manager would be spoilt for choices at defence and who would be partnering Carlos Delgado would be interesting to see.

Rating: 7/10

  • Midfield:

Odisha FC midfield is as strong as it gets. With Captain Marcos Tebar and Xisco Hernandez pulling the strings in the midfield along with excellent wingers like Martin Perez Guedes, the midfield has an excellent mix of foreigners and Indian players that could strike fear into the heart of any defence. The young Senegalese defensive midfielder Niang will be the key at shielding the defence. The former Barcelona B man would could become the most important clog in the Odisha FC wheels

Rating : 8/10

  • Forwards:

The team’s front line is heavily dependent on Aridane Santanna. Daniel Lalhimpuia will be another key for the team’s forward line to perform, however the lack of depth in the attacking department could prove to be disastrous, as the midfielders would have to come up with goals rather than the front men.

Rating : 6/10

Coaching Staff:

Head Coach : Josep Gombau

Assistant Coach : Thangboi Singto

Goalkeeping Coach : Pau Rovira Crua

Head coach Joseph Gombau would be looking forward to changing his fortunes with the change in location. He would be looking forward to keep behind his disastrous last season and move ahead. With assistant coach, Thangboi Singto , a veteran of Indian football circuit, they would be looking forward for atleast a top 4 finish. It would require a monumental effort from the coaching staff as they have the players they aspired for.

Overall Team Rating:  7/10

Writers ‘Take:

Overall Odisha FC is a well balanced team having a strong defence and midfield, however there could be worrying concerns over their lack of depth in front of the park. Head coach Gombau would look forward to improve his coaching record and the team performance as well, since he had only a 22% win record over the last season (where they won 4 matches only). They have a better team than last season which might get the fans hoping for a better finish.
